The CNN Health experts tackled an interesting question this week:
“How long does it take to feel the benefits of a gluten-free diet once diagnosed with celiac disease? I have been living gluten/casein free for over five years now and have yet to see much improvement.”
Dr. Melina Jampolis suggested a few possible causes:
- Failing to remove all the gluten from one’s diet (as you must be 100% gluten free to feel the benefits)
- Not getting enough nutrients
- Another disease causing additional symptoms (fairly common with Celiac disease)
- A rare form of Celiac disease that doesn’t respond to a gluten-free diet
