I found out that Catch of the Bay Fish & Chips at Masstown Market in Debert prepares many gluten-free items. They shared this information with the New Glasgow chapter of the Canadian Celiac Association:
All items at the Catch of the Bay Fish & Chips menu are Gluten-Free except for:
- Crab cakes
- Kid’s fish fingers
- Onion rings
- Sweet & sour sauce
All of our fish/shellfish batters are made with rice flour, cornstarch, and gluten-free beer (either Schnitzer-Brau or La Messenger). We can accommodate most people with different dietary restrictions with our Gluten Free batter, including people with celiac disease. As far as the cooking of our menu items, they are split up among 3 fryers. One for fish, one for fries & onion rings and one for shellfish items. We must also consider those people with shellfish allergies which is why we designated the use of each fryer this way. We try our best to accommodate everyone and limit cross-contamination, but of course it is up the individual to decide what & where they eat if they have food allergies, restrictions etc.
