Gluten-Free Entertaining Made Easy!

If you’re hosting a gathering, it can be tricky to find good gluten-free appetizers to include on the menu. We have some suggestions to help you out!

Cheese Please!

Most cheese is gluten-free, so as long as your gluten-free guests aren’t dairy free, a nice cheese tray with some gluten-free crackers is a good choice. (Goat and buffalo cheeses can be good options for some dairy-free people, too.) Always read the ingredients before you buy, though! And, make sure to prepare the cheese yourself on a clean cutting board away from any gluten-containing foods.

Dipping Dilemma

Chips and dip are a popular choice for appetizers, but dips can easily be cross-contaminated if all dipping options are not gluten-free. So, to make it easy, use gluten-free crackers, veggies, and gluten-free corn or potato chips as dippers so that everyone can enjoy the feed.

Encourage Ingredient Lists

If other people are bringing dishes to your event, let them know what allergies to be aware of and ask them to include an ingredient list with their dish.

Focus on Friends

When planning an event, try to focus on fun and conversation rather than food. As well, let your gluten-free guests know right away what they can consume and what they should stay away from.

There’s an App for That!

If you have an Apple iOS or Android device, there are apps that you can buy to help you plan allergy-friendly menus. For example, Allergy-Free Entertaining has a free app for several platforms that allows you to choose the type of meal and what considerations there are for it, including gluten-free, wheat-free, egg-free, dairy-free, soy-free, nut-free, low sugar, and vegan/vegetarian. Then it will provide a list of suggested recipes.

No matter what you choose to include in your menu, have fun!
