Superstore Now Carrying President’s Choice Gluten-Free Baked Goods!

Last week, Superstore (owned by Loblaws) launched their President’s Choice line of gluten-free goodies!

The options include:

  • Blueberry Muffins
  • Double Chocolate Muffins
  • Lemon Poppyseed Loaf
  • Banana Loaf
  • Mini Brownies
  • Coconut Cookies
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • White Sandwich Loaf

The Sackville Drive Superstore had a great display of all the products earlier this week:

Everything was $5.99. We picked up a White Sandwich Loaf and the Mini Brownies. The sandwich bread looked quite dense, but actually tasted good and was quite light. I don’t think that it would be my first choice (that honor belongs to Udi’s Multi-Grain Loaf), but it certainly deserves second place.

The Mini Brownies were another big surprise. I put off trying them since I was sure I was going to be disappointed. I was so wrong! They’re indistinguishable from the regular mini brownies: moist, soft, and very chocolatey!

Congratulations to Superstore for doing such a great job and offering Celiacs more gluten-free options. I can’t wait to try some muffins and cookies!

And just so folks know–I asked Presidents Choice (via their Facebook page) whether the GF baked goods were celiac safe (i.e. not made in a regular bakery). They replied and said the GF goods are baked in a dedicated bakery, so no chance of cross-contamination! 🙂 I guess to be absolutely safe, it’d be good to know that they’re paying attention to ingredient sourcing (e.g. not using, say, rice flour from Speerville, which is made in the same mill as their gluten flours)…but bottom line is, great that PC is doing this, and great that they are trying to cater to celiacs!

By the way, regarding those delicious brownies–might want to check out the fat content. I think just TWO of those brownies was almost 20% RDA of fat! :0 They sure are tasty though 😦

Thanks for the info – that is sure good to know! I did look at the calorie count after I ate the brownies and promptly ignored it since it was rather scary. 🙂 Soooo good though!
