Tracking Down Good Gluten-Free Cosmetics and Body Care

There is a lot of debate about gluten in skin care products. Most Celiac experts and organizations advise staying away from any body products that contain gluten. (See this post for more information.)

The question then becomes where to find products that are safe for Celiacs. I’ve recently discovered Arbonne, which offers gluten-free skin and body care, cosmetics, and healthy lifestyle products. (Note that the gluten-free list on their site is outdated – it indicates incorrectly that four of their products contain gluten. In fact, all of their products are gluten-free. You can read their statement about gluten here.) Arbonne uses a process similar to the one that beer companies are currently using: take gluten-containing ingredients, remove the gluten, add it into the product, and test to ensure that the gluten has been removed. (My Arbonne consultant, Janice Nieforth, has been extremely helpful in answering all my gluten-related questions! If you have questions about Arbonne’s policy, or specific products, you can contact her at janicenieforth(AT)

Some other beauty product lines that I’ve heard Celiacs recommend include:

If you’re looking for gluten-free weight loss products, check out Isagenix. Most of their items are gluten-free; you can read their gluten-free statement here.

Last but not least, if you have any other suggestions for gluten-free body care and fitness products, we’re happy to hear them as always!

Highly recommend Green Beaver products, lots of GF options and they do work well albeit slightly pricey…but that will change the more people discover what else is in their traditional chemical-laiden skin care products and start making smarter choices.

My sister has a chemical-free and natural cosmetics/personal care products distribution company in Ontario. Her website is

She carries lots of different brands and can answer any questions you may have about the products.

I took your recommendation on the gluten free pizza place in Halifax and it was really yummy. Thank you!

In your cosmetics list, try Vasanti cosmetics available at the larger Lawton’s stores here in Halifax. They are all gluten free and are also a Canadian company. Fantastic stuff. Also Marcelle products- there are many that are gluten free. You have to check with the company for an updated list, but they have many to choose from for skin care. A lot less expensive than the Arbonne stuff, and can be purchased locally. Hair care- Dove shampoo and conditioner are gluten free. If you want a salon shampoo try the Paul Mitchell lines- they have a very good gluten free list if you email them, and Morrocan Oil product line is gluten free.
