Hanging Out at the Halifax Seaport Beerfest!

Last weekend, Michael and I attended the Halifax Seaport Beerfest. It was an absolute blast! I was really impressed by all the gluten-free options. The following gluten-free beer makers were on hand:

And, there were some gluten-free ciders available too:

(I’ve always been confused about ciders, so each time I tried one, I confirmed that it was gluten-free. The general rule of thumb seems to be that if the cider is made by a beer manufacturer, it’s not gluten-free. Always check the label!)

In no particular order, my favorite items were:

  • Mongozo Pilsner (which is not available here)
  • Glutenberg’s Anerican Pale Ale (also not available here, although the NSLC carries Glutenberg Blonde)
  • Tideview Cider’s Sparkling Peach (available from Premier Wine and Spirits; other flavours available from the NSLC)
  • Stutz Cider (their representative was a Celiac too!)

To top things off, each of the four food vendors had gluten-free food options:

The best part was the gluten-free icons right on the festival map, making it very easy to find things to try. I can’t wait to see what Seaport Beerfest has to offer next year!

OH, you’re right there on my side when it comes to the Mongozo!! They used to carry it at the Liverpool NSLC; they stopped carrying it about a year ago. It was FANTASTIC. Absolutely impossible to tell it was gluten free.

It is so good! I should email the NSLC and see if they will bring it back 🙂
