Eating Gluten-Free at the Stubborn Goat

Last month, The Stubborn Goat gastropub opened after months of renovations to the old G Lounge space, and lots of hype from beer lovers and foodies. My experiences eating gluten-free at gastropubs have been mixed. Theoretically, a gastropub should offer high quality, made-from-scratch food, but we’ve encountered many gastropubs that offer the usual processed, frozen, and/or deep-fried fare, making them highly unsuitable for Celiacs. We decided to give The Stubborn Goat a chance to see if they were any different.

Freeman’s Does Gluten-Free!

Last month, we visited Freeman’s Little New York on Quinpool Road with some family members. (They also have locations on Grafton Street downtown and in Fairview.) I was fairly surprised when we sat down and there was a sign advertising new gluten-free pizzas! When a server came by to take our drink order, I asked about toppings, and was even more surprised when she said they had a gluten-free menu.

Wooden Monkey Never Fails to Please

The Wooden Monkey is the answer to every prayer uttered by Celiacs, vegans, and slow food aficionados in and around Halifax. Located on Grafton Street, their menu is built around organic, macrobiotic, locally grown, fresh, healthy ingredients. No deep-fried mozzarella sticks or farmed salmon to be found here!
