Chez Yvonne’s is a Cavendish Treat

Michael and I were recently on Prince Edward Island to visit family. We dined with some of them at Chez Yvonne’s, a Cavendish family restaurant. Michael was seriously doubtful that I’d be able to eat there, but I was convinced they would have at least something gluten-free.
We arrived at the restaurant for lunch and were promptly seated by a family member who works there. We ordered drinks and were offered rolls. Our server also asked if I wanted some gluten-free toast, and explained that all their French fries are fried separately from breaded items. We were off to a great start!
Larazotide Acetate Study Results Revealed

The first results of the larazotide acetate studies from Alba Therapeutics are in! The news is mixed. Although patients reported less discomfort after consuming gluten with the medication, intestinal damage was still evident. However, researchers say that the trial was scientifically successful, proving that clinical research about celiac disease can be done and drugs can be tested. They are planning on moving forward with further tests, too!

New Food Labeling Regulations in Effect August 4, 2012

The big day is almost here! On February 16, 2011, Health Canada published amendments to food labeling regulations that would take effect on August 4, 2012, giving manufacturers 18 months advance notice. That means as of this weekend, prepackaged foods must list allergens (including gluten) in a straightforward manner.
